Franziska Winkler, an author and curator, explores the intersection of written and sign language in her work, aiming to bring greater visibility to sign language poetry. Recently, she edited the anthology handverlesen – Gebärdesprachpoesie in Lautsprache (hochroth München). Her literary work engages with transmedial literary translation and creates unique textual forms, blending written language with sign language, her first language as the daughter of Deaf parents.

“As an author on my first residency, I appreciated the opportunity to focus on my work, something I often balance with curatorial projects like handverlesen. The conversations and exchanges with other artists were equally valuable, offering insights into different practices and perspectives. These moments shaped and informed my own approach, both in writing and in thinking about creative processes. Schöppingen became a place where I could explore, experiment, and simply observe – the landscape, the people, the shifts in time. It’s a place where stillness meets curiousity.“
