Julius Metzger is a visual artist and author who lives in Cologne. He works with food and drink in the context of contemporary art. Important components of his performances and culinary interventions are narratives, humor, microorganisms and the practice of foraging. In various collaborative constellations, he has realized projects for the Bonner Kunstverein, the Temporary Gallery in Cologne, the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and the Center for Literature, Münster, among others.

“Under the title “Cheap Thrills”, I conducted an artistic research project on cheap, simple food. I researched historical poor people’s kitchens and collected, fermented, cooked and gardened in the artists‘ village’s permaculture garden together with the other scholarship holders. The resulting essays and recipes will be published as an artist’s book.”
