Hallima Imane Zoubai is a multi-disciplinary artist born and based in Fez, Morocco. She graduated from l’Institut National des Beaux-Arts of Tetouan (2020). With a musical background, she works at the intersection of poetic and natural materials, exploring the various creative possibilities offered by musical emotion. She is particularly interested in the oral traditions of her native region and the materiality of its musical landscapes. She participated in the recent documenta15 in Kassel to perform “Is our bread ready yet?” (Germany, 2022) as part of the public program of AWAL and Le18. In 2023, she took part in Résidence
Méditerrané e to develop “ Le cabaret pas de chance” performance installation around musical territories of migration at La Friche Belle de Mai- Fraeme (Marseille, France). She took part in the winter 2025 residency of HIAP, Finland, to develop Moussem of forms to reflect on the materiality of rhythm.
“My interest in the Künstler*dorf fellowship comes from my current focus on developing a performative practice around Moroccan celebration traditions, especially their visual and symbolic elements. I explore how ingredients in food and drink carry emotional and cultural value, and how these can be activated in performance in comparison to the way they are essential to a festive event. I also reflect on how my work could be received outside its cultural context, questioning what it means to “understand” art. Through the analogy of feeding, tasting, and craving, I aim to dive into perception and investigate the emergence of meaning within my practice and in dialogue with others in the collective setting.”
