Kaleb Erdmann was born in Witten an der Ruhr in 1991 and grew up in Bayreuth, Erfurt, and Munich. Today, he is a freelance author, playwright, and stage poet. He completed a degree in literary writing at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. Prior to that, he studied political science in Munich and then went on to complete a master’s degree in political theory in Frankfurt am Main. Kaleb Erdmann has been performing as a stage writer and spoken word poet since his early youth. In 2020, he was nominated for the Retzhofer Drama Prize for his play “Unten” (Down Below). The following year, he was a finalist in the open mike competition for young literature. Since 2020, he has also been writing for various television and entertainment formats. In the same year, he received the 360° scholarship from the city of Düsseldorf for his novel project “wir sind pioniere” (we are pioneers). “wir sind pioniere” was published in spring 2024 by Ullstein Verlag and was awarded the lit.Cologne debut prize in March of the same year. His first full-length play, “Always Carrey On,” premiered at the Berliner Ensemble in February 2025.For his work on his second novel, “Die Ausweichschule” (The Substitute School), he received a stipentfrom the state capital of Düsseldorf and a residency grant from the Künstler*dorf Schöppingen. „Die Ausweichschule“ was published in July 2025 and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in the same  year.
