Creativity requires safety, is nurtured by well-being, and thrives on exchange.
The Künstler*dorf, with its residency program, provides artists with time, space, and resources to focus on artistic projects or issues away from their everyday context.
What does it take, besides providing studios and stipends, to create a productive and supportive environment for everyone?
The potential of this interdisciplinary and international residency unfolds precisely in the diversity of artistic practices, individual conditions, and cultural contexts. How does individual support, which enables fellows with their different needs to take advantage of the fellowship and use it effectively, fit in with self- determined and community-oriented exchange?
These questions will be the focus of this year’s Summer School, which will take place from July 13 to 19, 2026, with the eponymous mission “Setting the Scene.”
This year’s series of “Open Studios” is driven by the urgent need to reclaim spaces for pause, care, and sustained reflection. The program is divided into three interconnected phases. Under the guiding theme “Essays on Togetherness,” the focus is on collegiality and solidarity, the power of learning from one another, and the desire to develop shared scenarios for the future while acknowledging differences.
