Younes Zarhoni is a sound and visual artist. He has translated his personal sonic universe into polyphonic vocal installations, electronic compositions, dance music, and field recordings. His visual language is shaped by a fascination with medieval mysticism, botany, nightclub culture, and political historiography. His work intertwines elements of contemporary folklore and Maghrebian diaspora history. Drawing on these associations, he dissects narratives and myths to reconstruct them visually, sonically, poetically, and intuitively. Born in Antwerp of Moroccan descent, Younes Zarhoni currently lives in Brussels. He has presented his work at various European festivals and institutions and was artist in residence at The Mothership, STUK Leuven, and Villa Empain, Boghossian Foundation. He has released records on the Belgian labels KRAAK and Lexidisque. In 2026, he will be artist in residence at the Jan van Eyck Academie.

“My project explores the cultural fault lines that emerged after 9/11, the rise of media-savvy populists, the transformations of the 1990s, and the dynamics of subcultures, migration, and religious conversion, issues that remain resonant today. It is based on a series of monochrome A4 pencil drawings titled The Scholar, the Seer, the Raver, and the Voice. The drawings reproduce associative fragments of memories, notes, and conversations with four distinct figures. A strict grid (5×5 cm and 5×10 cm) structures the observations without chronology, creating a bureaucratic, objective framework. Through this system, the personal experiences, dreams, and inner landscapes of the subjects are documented. The work forms a conceptual network where memory, politics, and symbolism intersect.”
