Jeanne Artemis is a composer and electronic musician based in Berlin. The purpose of her work is to create solace and compassion for the invisible suffering of the many and the few. The results are individual bodies of sound that seek connection with those experiencing darkness. From a young age, she found the origins of her musical thinking in European modernism, the achievements of non-European cultures and the innovative forms of underground music scenes. Her commitment to pushing the boundaries of her art in various genres has not only earned her recognition, but also serves as a source of inspiration for many others. She has received scholarships from the Goethe-Institut, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe, Musikfonds e.V., Neustart Kultur and the German Music Council, among others. A portrait was published in the “Neue Zeitschrift für Musik” (issue #2_2021). Her music is performed worldwide, e.g. in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the USA.
“During my stay in Schöppingen, I realized a project to research and creatively use historical agricultural equipment in sound design. This was not the original plan, but in the Schöppingen museum barn I discovered a variety of fascinating sounds that these devices can produce, so I absolutely had to devote myself to this. I have created an extensive sound library to use these acoustic impressions in future pieces of music. The fresh air, the beautiful nature and the friendly atmosphere on site also inspired my creativity and gave me lots of new ideas for my artistic work.”
