During her six-month residency in Künstlerdorf, Lea Gocht created an installation entitled „different than expected, rarely as expected and certainly not as others would like it to be“. With this installation, she thematizes grouping and exclusion, the masses and the individual.
The numerous „Zipfelobjekte“ (tip objects) trigger a friendly and disconcerting effect in constant alternation. The objects are photographed on analog black and white photographs in an improvised photo studio. They can be seen in humanized constellations such as family portraits and group photos and create a feeling of empathy in the viewer through a subliminal identification with the objects. The simple shape of the zigzag leaves plenty of room for interpretation. A caricatured form of a creature, bombs, images of military parades, phalli, Ku Klux Klan or a fanciful lunar landscape.
In general, my installations leave a great deal of room for interpretation and encourage viewers to accept the strange and to approach them playfully with their own interpretations.
