Mohammad Reza Jahanpanah

Mohammad Reza Jahanpanah (*1974 in Teheran, Iran) is a photographer, cinematographer, director and producer. He graduated in photography from Azad University in Tehran and received a diploma in Cinematography from TAFE in Western Australia.

Jahanpanah has directed numerous arthouse feature films, including “Widow of Silence” (2018, India), “City of Love” (2017, UK and Netherlands), and “Taboor” (2012, Iran). He also directed and produced two documentaries, “Lighting the Shadows”, which portrays renowned Iranian-Australian artist Hossein Valamanesh, and “Scenes from a Divorce”.
His current project “Vechte Tale” is an experimental short film with a protagonist who emerges from the river “Vechte” in the form of a sphinx with an elephant body. This film was shot and edited during his residency at the Künstlerdorf and is a collaboration with three other fellows at the Künstlerdorf, Gili Avissar: artist, Wingel Mendoza: composer and Shirin Barghnavard: filmmaker and film editor.
