Pia von Reis (*1991 in Munich) studied fine art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Since graduating with Simon Wachsmuth and Naomi Tereza Salmon in 2017, she has been working as a freelance artist.
During her stay in the Künstlerdorf, Pia von Reis wanted to process found objects and parts of plants into paper. Drawings, prints and watercolors should be created on these, which thematically move between “becoming” and “not being”. In the course of the residency Pia discovered the tension in the paper itself and began to explore the cycle and growth processes – moon phases, mineral growth, eggs and (wasp) nests – using paper. Following the experiment, she created a variety of three-dimensional works that embodied these qualities of the material. As the final presentation in the exhibition hall, she combined the objects with found objects and natural material such as mulch and branches, which transferred the objects to a space-filling installation.
